Shaft access, and the jobs that come with it

Getting into a shaft or a pit safely is its own skill, and it's often the only thing standing between a building and a job that has to get done. We hold the shaft, isolate the equipment and work to the codes — whether the work in there is ours or somebody else's.

Access

Shaft and pit access for other trades

Builders, painters, waterproofers, surveyors, engineers and inspectors all need to get in at some point. We provide safe, isolated, supervised access so they can work without the lift company having to find someone.

Isolation · supervision

Protection

Corrosion resistance and treatment

Shaft and pit steelwork, guide rails, brackets and fixings treated and coated against corrosion. Common in coastal buildings, basement carparks and anywhere a pit has been wet for a while.

Coatings · remedial

Waterproofing

Pit waterproofing and sealing

Pumping a pit out only fixes today. We seal and waterproof the pit so the water stops coming back, and the equipment above it stops corroding on a cycle.

Tanking · sealing

Retrievals

Getting things out of lift pits

Keys, wallets, phones, jewellery, passes and tools go down the gap constantly. We recover them properly — equipment isolated, nothing damaged, and the lift back in service the same visit.

Same visit where we can

02 — Tickets, cover & plant

The compliance pack, ready before you ask for it.

Most of the delay in getting a subcontractor onto site is paperwork, and the rest is waiting on gear. Our compliance pack is current and sits in one folder — say the word and it's in your inbox the same day. The plant is ours too, down to the test weights, so nothing in the program hangs on a hire yard.

Prequalification

Cm3 qualified

Verified against the safety prequalification most principal contractors and centre managers run on.

Licence 92977

Electrical contractor

Licensed electrical contractor, fully insured, with certificates of currency available on request.

High risk work

Rigging & dogging

Rigging, dogging, scaffolding and forklift tickets held in-house, so a lift doesn't wait on a hire crew.

Rail

RIW tickets

Rail Industry Worker cards held and current, so station and platform work doesn't stall at the access gate.

Cabling

Telecommunications

Telco licensing alongside the electrical side, which covers comms, monitoring and emergency phone work.

Cover

Insurances

Public liability and workers' compensation current, with certificates of currency available on request.

Plant on the books

Low headroom access truck, crane fitted

Built for the jobs where the standard truck won't fit — basement carparks, plant rooms and back-of-house docks with a ceiling in the way. Machines go in and come out without hiring in and without waiting on a window in someone else's schedule.

Low clearance · crane

Plant on the books

Vans with 450 kg tail lifts

Controllers, door packages, motors and gearboxes get to the floor and back to the workshop without a second crew or a forklift booking. It's the difference between a component swap taking a shift and taking a week.

450 kg tail lift

Plant on the books

Our own Tiraks, 1 t and 2 t

Both capacities sit in our yard, so rigging a shaft doesn't start with a hire order and finish around somebody else's return date. We set up, lift, and get off the site on our own program.

1 tonne · 2 tonne

Plant on the books

Rigging gear and test weights to 3.5 t

A full rigging kit and our own test weights up to 3.5 tonnes. Load testing and handover happen when the job is ready, not when a hire yard can spare the weights — which is usually the week everyone else needs them too.

Test weights to 3.5 t

03 — How we work

Labour that turns up with the licences already in hand.

01

One crew, all the trades

Experienced electricians and fitters alongside qualified riggers and doggers. A rip-out doesn't stall while somebody's subcontractor becomes available, and you're not managing four sets of inductions.

02

Infill when your crews are stretched

We pick up maintenance runs, after-hours support and call-outs. Centres, stations and hotels can't drop a unit out of service at midday, so nights and weekends are our normal rather than a surcharge you have to argue about.

03

We travel for the work

Queensland and northern New South Wales is the base, not the boundary. Crews go where the program is — regional Queensland, interstate, remote sites — with accommodation and travel priced up front so there are no surprises halfway through. If the job is worth the trip, ask.

04

Scaled for the big programmes

Full replacements and multi-unit runs, delivered to the relevant codes, regulations and safety standards. We're set up to hold a program, not just a job.

05

One person on scope, program and price

David Dann owns and runs the business and handles the commercial side himself. You're not chasing an estimator who has never seen the shaft.

04 — Advice

Not sure which lift company to go with?

Ask us before you sign.

We work alongside most of the major lift companies and a good number of the independents, on their equipment, in their shafts, to their programs. That gives us a fair view of who is strong where — who is good on modernisations, who holds a program, who turns up when a unit goes down at 6pm on a Friday.

If you're weighing up who to appoint for a modernisation, a replacement or a maintenance contract, send us the building and what you're trying to achieve. We'll give you an honest read based on what we've actually seen on site. No fee, and no obligation to use us for the work.

05 — Work with us

Expressions of interest.

We take on electricians, fitters, riggers and doggers, and we'll talk to good apprentices. Work is across Queensland and northern New South Wales with travel available, and a fair bit of it is out of hours. Tell us what you've done and send your resume through — we keep them on file and come back to people when the program needs it.

This opens an email to admin@adaptle.com.au with your answers filled in. Attach your resume to that email before you send it.

06 — Questions

What people ask before they send us a job.

What licences and accreditations do you hold?

Electrical Contractor Licence 92977, telecommunications licensing, and high risk work licences covering rigging, dogging, scaffolding and forklift. RIW cards are held and current for rail work. We're Cm3 qualified, and insurances are in place. Ask and the full pack is in your inbox the same day.

Something's fallen down the lift shaft — can you get it out?

Yes, and it's a job we do often. Keys, wallets, phones, jewellery, access passes and tools all end up in the pit. We isolate the equipment, recover the item properly and put the lift back in service, usually in the same visit. Don't let anyone reach in after it.

Can you give another trade access to a shaft or pit?

Yes. Builders, painters, waterproofers, surveyors and engineers regularly need to be in a shaft, and someone qualified has to hold it and isolate the equipment. We provide that access under our own licences and supervision, so the lift company doesn't have to find a crew for it.

Can you pump out a flooded pit?

Yes. We acquired Clean Steps, an industrial cleaning business that works under an electrical contractor's licence with purpose-built machines and operators who are qualified lift technicians and electricians. That covers pumping out flooded lift and escalator pits, pit and shaft cleaning, glass lift cleaning, and escalator and travelator cleaning across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria — in-house rather than out to a third party. Useful when a pit floods and the unit stays out of service until it's dry.

Do you travel?

Yes, and regularly. Queensland and northern New South Wales is the base, not the boundary — we've put crews on regional and interstate programs and we'll price travel and accommodation into the quote up front rather than bolt it on later.

Can you tell us which lift company to use?

We can give you an honest read. We work alongside most of the majors and a good number of the independents, so we see who is strong where. Send the building and what you're trying to achieve to admin@adaptle.com.au — no fee, and no obligation to use us for the work.

Can you work nights and weekends?

Most of what we do is out of hours. Shutdowns, possession windows and weekend programs are ordinary for us rather than something you have to negotiate for.

What's the widest scope you'll take on?

Complete installations and ongoing service work sit comfortably inside our licences and our people. The bulk of our program is contract work alongside the lift companies and that suits us — but if a job needs the full package, have the conversation with David.

How do we get a price?

Send the scope and any drawings to admin@adaptle.com.au, or call David. Quotes are issued on our published terms of engagement and hold for 45 days.

07 — Contact

Send the scope. We'll tell you straight whether it's ours.

Six fields and a tick-list. The more you put in the last two, the closer the first price will be to the final one.

What to send

Site and unit details, the scope as you understand it, any drawings or condition reports, and the window you need it done in. If access or possession is the constraint, say so up front — it usually shapes the price more than the parts do.
